Biophysical250

DOCTORS NOTE:

It is my opinion that medical information is most effective when it is shared within the context of a patient-physician relationship. In my practice, I have experienced the greatest successes with my patients when they have been empowered through patient education and guided with rational goal setting that is structured within their life context. Biophysical studies can be strong tools for positive change when combined with the foundation of solid patient-physician interactions.

What Can Biophysical250 Tell You?

(excerpted from Biophysical Corp)

Make your next annual physical a Biophysical™.

Millions of adults—even those who appear healthy—live with undetected illnesses. In the U.S. alone, 1.4 million people will be diagnosed with cancer this year. Another 17 million will suffer an adverse cardiovascular event. The good news is that the sooner specific diseases and medical conditions are detected; the sooner—and more effectively—they can be treated. The Biophysical250 health assessment gives you information to help make decisions that can impact your health and change your life.

Biophysical250 surveys the biomarkers in your blood that could indicate many conditions and diseases including:

  • Cardiovascular disease (such as risk for heart attack and stroke)
  • Cancer (including breast, colon, liver, ovarian, prostate and pancreatic)
  • Metabolic disorders (such as diabetes and metabolic syndrome)
  • Autoimmune disease (including rheumatoid arthritis and lupus)
  • Viral and bacterial diseases (such as mononucleosis and pneumonia)
  • Hormonal imbalance (including menopause, testosterone deficiency, thyroid deficiency)
  • Nutritional status (such as vitamin deficiencies, protein deficiencies)
Biophysical250 Autoimmune Disease Biomarkers

The immune system protects the body from potentially harmful substances such as microorganisms, toxins and cancer cells. Autoimmune disorders develop when the immune system destroys normal body tissues, resulting in the destruction of one or more types of body tissues, abnormal growth of an organ, or changes in organ function. Biophysical250 tests numerous biomarkers that can indicate the presence of autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and lupus.

Biophysical250 Cancer Biomarkers

Cancer involves the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells that have mutated from normal tissues. This growth can kill when these cells prevent normal function of vital organs or spread throughout the body, damaging essential systems. Certain cancers are frequently associated with specific serum biomarkers. Biophysical250 includes biomarkers to test for several types of cancer, including breast, colon, liver, ovarian, prostate and pancreatic.

Biophysical250 Cardiovascular Biomarkers

Cardiovascular refers to the heart (cardio) and blood vessels (vascular). Heart disease is any disorder that affects the heart's ability to function normally. The most common cause of heart disease is narrowing or blockage of the coronary arteries, which supply blood to the heart itself. A number of biomarkers are associated with the process and effects of cardiovascular disease, which include heart attack and stroke.

Biophysical Cell Signaling Biomarkers

Immunity, inflammation and the production of new blood cells are mediated by the complex interaction of a number of serum biomarkers called cytokines. They are elevated in processes relating to host disease and repair. Biomarker250 includes numerous biomarkers to test cell signaling function.

Biophysical250 Diabetes and other Metabolic Disorder Biomarkers

Diabetes is metabolic disorder and a lifelong disease marked by high levels of sugar in the blood. It can be caused by too little insulin (a hormone produced by the pancreas to regulate blood sugar), resistance to insulin, or both. Pre-diabetes is a condition in which blood glucose levels are higher than normal but are not high enough for a diagnosis of diabetes. People who have pre-diabetes are at increased risk for developing type 2 diabetes, heart disease and stroke. Biophysical250 can indicate the presence of pre-diabetes, type I diabetes and type II diabetes. Biophysical250 also includes biomarkers that can identify other metabolic disorders, such as metabolic syndrome and add info here.

Biophysical250 Hematology Biomarkers

Hematologic abnormalities can reflect problems with fluid volume (such as dehydration) or loss of blood. They can also reflect acute or chronic infection, allergies, anemia, or problems with blood clotting.

Biophysical250 Hormonal Imbalance Biomarkers

Endocrine glands produce and secrete hormones into the blood or lymph systems. These glands include the thyroid, parathyroid, hypothalamus, pineal, pituitary, adrenal, islets of Langerhans in the pancreas, and the gonads. The effects of these hormones may affect one organ or tissue, or the entire body. Biophysical250 includes biomarkers that can indicate hormonal imbalance such as menopause, testosterone deficiency and thyroid deficiency.

Biophysical250 Immune/Inflammation Biomarkers

The immune system consists of certain types of white blood cells, antibodies and other proteins that protect the body from potentially harmful substances. The inflammatory response is part of the immune reaction. It occurs when tissues are injured by bacteria, trauma, toxins, heat or any other cause.

Biophysical250 Infectious Disease Biomarkers

Bacterial, parasitic and viral infections can be acute or chronic and affect every organ system. The causative agent of an infectious disease is often identified through the specific antibodies raised by the immune system to the infections organism. Biophysical250 tests for a multitude of infectious disease, including mononucleosis, pneumonia, chlamydia, pertussis, Lyme disease, hepatitis, herpes, Epstein-Barr, tuberculosis and human papilloma.

Biophysical250 Nutritional Status Biomarkers

Malnutrition means a person's body is not getting enough nutrients. The condition may result from an inadequate or unbalanced diet, digestive difficulties, absorption problems, or other medical conditions. Biophysical250 evaluates nutritional status, including vitamin and protein deficiencies and can indicate the presence of nutrition-related medical conditions such as celiac disease.

Biophysical Organ System Biomarkers

Major organ function is most comprehensively evaluated with blood tests assessing the levels of serum biomarkers that are regulated or synthesized by the various organs. In many cases, specific biomarkers are associated with the cause of impaired function.

Biophysical Osteoarthritis Biomarkers

Osteoarthritis is one of the most common types of arthritis. Arthritis involves inflammation of one or more joints and the breakdown of cartilage. Cartilage normally protects the joint, allowing for smooth movement. Cartilage also absorbs shock when pressure is placed on the joint, such as when you walk or otherwise bear weight. Without the usual amount of cartilage, the bones rub together, causing pain, swelling, stiffness and the formation of bone spurs. Biophysical250 includes several biomarkers to indicate the presence of osteoarthritis.

About BiophysicalYou (excerpted from Biophysical Corp)

New scientific discoveries indicate that with the right approach, most people can improve their health status. And even more importantly, there's every indication that you can be healthy and productive right up until the end of life

What is your current health status?

We've all heard of aging gracefully–now you can learn how to age healthfully.

Your health status can be influenced by many factors–nutrition, exercise and a number of other influencers–as presented in YOU: Staying Young. For example, scientific discoveries show that inflammation and the immune system may play a key role in aging and in the development of many common diseases. It stands to reason that if you have a clear understanding of the current state of your body's immune response that–under the guidance of your physician–you have the power to reduce this harmful inflammation and be back on a plan for better health.

Biophysical put together a panel of biomarkers mentioned in the book to provide a view of one's current health status. The result is BiophysicalYou, the first blood-based biomarker assessment designed specifically to measure the biological factors that may contribute to premature–and unhealthful–aging. BiophysicalYou is featured in best-selling authors Drs. Roizen and Oz's new book YOU: Staying Young as an assessment for getting a current view of your health status. Following the premise of the book, BiophysicalYou provides insight into many of the conditions. (The content of and opinions expressed in the book are those of Drs. Oz and Roizen.)

BiophysicalYou builds on the science and success of Biophysical's flagship Biophysical250 health assessment–screening over 60 biomarkers using just two tablespoons of blood–using the same innovative technology that has been used for many years for clinical research and by the pharmaceutical industry. To compare, if you wanted to test all of these biomarkers using conventional laboratory methods, it would take multiple blood draws and cost significantly more.

Simply put, BiophysicalYou helps provide insights into many of the conditions that may influence the way you age. It is a scientific way for you to assess and monitor your current health status.

When you take the BiophysicalYou assessment, you take an important step towards understanding your current health status. You may discover that you are doing quite well. If so, congratulations and keep up the good work. If BiophysicalYou indicates areas for improvement, you can take comfort in knowing that there are many life style changes you can make.

How can biomarkers help measure your health status?

In the past few years, there has been increased interest by the medical community around the idea that people can not only live longer lives, but also that these may be healthier years. Researchers are learning that you may be able to affect the length and quality of your life through relatively simple actions such as improving your diet, exercising, learning to reduce stress and getting quality sleep.

Moreover, a recent discovery draws an important connection between chronic low level inflammation and the development of many common diseases. Inflammation, it turns out, may contribute to minor health problems and life-threatening diseases, and potentially to untimely aging. The good news is that chronic low levels of inflammation may be reduced.

When levels of specific biomarkers change dramatically over time, it can be a signal that health problems are developing. Essentially, elevated or low levels of certain biomarkers may be an indication that you have or are developing a serious condition or disease. That's why having your blood tested periodically–and comparing your results over time to previous results–is so valuable for determining if a health problem is developing. Monitoring the change of a biomarker or set of biomarkers over time can help your physician identify potentially serious conditions and diseases even before they present outward symptoms. Early detection of a condition is important because treatment options are the most effective at this stage of disease development.

* Your Biophysical assessment report is intended to be used for health information only. Your report is not diagnostic of any disease or condition and should not be used to self-diagnose or self treat. We encourage every individual to share the results with their personal physician. Only a physician can interpret these results for you, recommend additional testing, recommend treatment and lifestyle changes and/or use the information as a baseline from which future test results can be compared.
